Are you ill-informed? Do you not know that oxygen is the only treatment proven to prolong life for those of us with COPD? Do you have some wild urge to try out dementia to see how well you like it? Or does brain fog take you back to your younger years and that feeling when you were high? I hope that you know that I am just trying to have a little fun as I pursue this topic.
Are you embarrassed? Come on now. For most of us with COPD, we should be far past the age where we care too much about what other people think. Remember my last post about pursed-lip breathing? Yes, it is far better to have people stare a little than it is to make a complete spectacle of yourself and worry a lot of concerned strangers unnecessarily.
OK from that last statement I get it. You don’t want people to pity you. My defense for that is to not look like I need anyone to pity me. I put a big smile on my face and say hello with gusto and even more gusto and a bigger smile if I see them start to get that look. No, I don’t need pity and in fact, I do not need your judgement at all, so back off with that.
I have been thinking of starting a company that makes jewelry to adorn our cannulas. Wouldn’t that be fun? I think the Queen of Sheba or Siam or somewhere wore jewels on their face coverings. Maybe that will work with the masks as well since they seem to be destined to be a permanent accessory.
I shall return soon with a more sober and thought-provoking topic. I do wonder though why some people just refuse to wear their oxygen.
