The first impression that you may have of the title is that this person needs to speak with a therapist because they are depressed. This person does see a therapist and the truth is that they do not suffer from clinical depression. This person suffers from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease ( COPD).

But COPD is a disease of the lungs, so how does it cause this struggle to want to live? How would you deal with waking up every morning and being too tired to want to get up? There then comes one day you just cannot make it out of bed. You sleep for most of two days and you still do not feel rested on the third day, but you say to yourself “I cannot go on like this, so I am going to get up and change my attitude and get something done today.”

You vow to resume your exercise routine because you know that exercise has been shown to improve your energy level. You renew your vow to help find a cure and to do all that you can to help the COPD Foundation, American Lung Association, and many smaller groups across the world make life more enjoyable for COPD patients.

I draw my strength from my many friends at the COPD Foundation. I cannot let them down and give up, but many days I do want to do just that.

One Thought on “A Person Should Not Have to Struggle to Want to Live”

  • Indeed, a person should not have to struggle to live.
We all should have good reasons to want to get up out of bed each morning. When we go to sleep at night, we should have something to look forward to the next day.
Not having positive feelings, we wonder if this is caused by depression. Or, do we tire of struggling to breathe, and get our chores done.
We have to reach deep within ourselves and pull out our inner strength and say…I CAN get up and feel good about the day! I WILL accomplish something great! That may be finishing paperwork, pulling weeds, giving the dog a bath, mopping the kitchen floor…
I, too, am getting support from friends at the COPD Foundation!!! Priceless friends who help to make our days bright! Together, we ARE better! We are ONE.
